Marketing Research and Consulting

In Memory of Jim Goodman

Jim Goodman, age 46, passed away Sunday, June 22nd, while competing in the Hy-Vee Triathlon. President of Customer Ease, Jim was a serialJim Goodman entrepreneur and was at the helm of multiple organizations in Iowa. Jim will be missed by all of his colleagues and friends. I will certainly miss him.

First and foremost, he loved his family. He left behind a wife, Lisa, and three daughters: Natalie, Ellie, and Rubie, as well as his parents, Dick and Bert, in addition to 4 brothers and a sister.

Jim loved small business and was the architect for the Creative Entrepreneur Organization, which is housed by the CEO Center in the East Village of Des Moines, Iowa. As of late, he was traveling across the state of Iowa, promoting small business and innovation through VentureNet Iowa. This is a program through a collaboration with many statewide entities that offered the 4 M’s of a successful venture, Marketing, Management, Money, and Model. This fits in very well with Customer Ease.

Jim was also a big fan of giving back to the community. He was the President of the East Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Board of Orchard Place, active in DMAM Rotary, and very active in his church. The article in the Des Moines Register does a good job of summing up his endeavors. There was also an article concerning Jim’s visitation and history , which you can read here. Jim had a radio program, The Iowa Business Hour. We had a memorial show on July 2nd, 2008, which you can listen to here.

I sat down with Jim and talked about what I wanted to do with my business lifeCEO Iowa Group right before I graduated from Drake University 2 1/2 years ago (where he was also an adjunct professor of marketing and entrepreneurialism). On that day, I came in to an empty CEO Center looking for advice, and now I sit here with 12 CEO Center tenants upstairs, and 5 internal staff, running various sister companies.

Even though Jim is gone, his spirit of entrepreneurialism and great attitude towards life lives on with all of us.

Jim was a great mentor and friend to me, and I plan to keep working under his umbrella of endeavors. He will be missed sincerely by all of us.
